MUMBAI: Ex-RED FM Delhi RJ Abhilash Thapliyal, who has recently worked in the 2018 Saqib Saleem and Taapsee Pannu starrer, Dil Juunglee has now embarked on another element of his career. He is one of the participants of Sony Entertainment Television’s comic reality show, Comedy Circus.
Speaking about his new show, Abhilash said, “Comedy Circus happened post Entertainment Ki Raat on Colours. The production house liked my show and Nikul, from the team, asked me if you would do Comedy Circus?’ I said yes and I am enjoying the show as I am getting to play different characters. Also, the characters, I am getting to play are different from my real life as I am a very sincere person in real-life. But the characters are completely desi and naughty, which I am loving to play.”
On switching from RJing to acting and now comedy, he revealed, “It started while doing radio as I gradually realised that performance can be done quite easily in a visual medium. Later, I started making digital videos, which became viral. I had hosted the show World Kabaddi League on Sony Six in 2014. Post coming to Mumbai, I did a film, Dil Juunglee with Saqib Saleem and Taapsee Pannu. I believe after acting in a movie, one’s confidence is immensely boosted. And I personally aspired to become an actor, while doing radio also, but had never thought that something like this would actually happen. But, yes, I was sure that if I get any opportunity in the visual medium, I will do it.”
Abhilash wants to give his 100 per cent to his job and revealed, why he wouldn’t pursue RJing, while pursuing his acting career. He said, “When you are doing full time acting, it becomes very difficult to manage both the things along with the tight shoot schedules. Radio takes a lot of time, as you will have to invest four-five hours a day, daily, in the station. So, it makes no sense to juggle between the two, when you are not able to do even one properly. I have always been clear that whatever I will do, I will be doing with complete dedication. And, when I will stop getting acting assignments, I will switch back to radio.”
“Radio will always be my first love as it was just not a job, but something I loved to do and was passionate about. But, now I also love acting as I am getting recognition as an artist. Also, since a film reaches everywhere, you reach out to more people. I remember, when I was in Delhi, my RJ friends use to say that if they shift to Mumbai, then they will do something in the visual medium. Hence, I didn’t wanted to regret, not exploring acting when I am 37 as you just get one life,” the ex-RJ revealed.
Lastly, on his plans to go back to radio again, Abhilash Thapliyal concluded, “I would love to work with whichever radio station that gives me a slot, without any hassle as it is always about your slot.”
