MUMBAI: Born to an Indian father and a Serbian mother, and brought up in Northwest, London, singer RESHRICH has infused elements of R&B and Pop into his music. Resh used to study in a music college in London, and learnt about the industry and the different roles and processes required to craft and produce a song. 19-year old RESHRICH, a singer cum songwriter of Indian origin born and brought up in London, is the brother of Rika Darbari so it seems talent runs in the family.
He has two singles out Buy My Love and Moonlight, which have been heavily supported by the BBC Asian Network and they have labelled him as an upcoming talent in pop music.
RESH shares what inspired him to be a musician, “What inspired me to be a musician is the connection you have with people, through music. I listen to music only when I need to connect with what I’m feeling. When I’m in the gym I want to feel energised, so I put on a track with heavy bass and do my workout. If I’m feeling, I want to get some inspiration for a track that I’m about to write, I’ll put on a slow R&B song to get in my feelings.”
Though born and brought up in the West, RESH’s music still has some Indian influences, as he explains, “Indian pop music influenced my first couple of tracks, like Buy My Love, but my next release Gasoline is going to step away further from Indian pop. It’s part of my roots but I want to expand into different sounds now and tell a different story.”
Post his two tracks, Moonlight and Buy My Love, which were essentially romantic songs, he has explored another genre and vibe with his new track Gasoline. “My next release Gasoline is going to have a different vibe entirely. My tracks like Buy My Love and Moonlight, they were happier and more upbeat, but this time I’m going to do something different with Gasoline and really go into the R&B side, something that’s more vocally expressive,” he reveals.
Exploring various genres, delving into multiple musical genres, RESH who is at an impressionable age, derives his inspiration from varied artistes. He shares, “I would say I get inspired by artists like Bryson Tiller, Drake and Justin Bieber.”
He also explains what he would like to imbibe from each of his idols, “I always look at how they stay on the top. They have to change and lead the way with what the public wants to listen to. Essentially, when they make a song, it’s going to be the next big trend every other artist will follow, because that’s how much influence they have on the public, and I feel that’s something I want to do with my career.”
