MUMBAI: Some songs are timeless and songs from the Bollywood movie, 1942: A Love Story falls in that category. Each song is a beautiful melody. It’s hard to forget Anil Kapoor and his dreamy expressions whilst he describes his dream girl in Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga. Javed Akhtar’s lyrics and R D Burman’s music make this song a timeless piece that eventually became. The hook line of this song is the title of a new film, starring original actor of the song, Anil Kapoor.
The title track also retains the catchphrase of the song. In a music world muddled with remixes, this is no surprise. However, the melody is lost in the song, thanks to a heavy mixture of a new tune, and a Punjabi theme-heavy piece. The song leads nowhere. The beauty of the song is however the point where the new tune merges with the old one. This juncture will definitely bring a rush of nostalgia for the 90’s generation.
The lyrics by Gurpreet Saini give us a hint of the storyline of the movie. Sung and composed by Rochak Kohli, and co-sung by Darshan Raval, this song leaves with mixed feelings. It is certainly a monumental task to recreate a song that has been loved and has a mass following. If this song did not have a reference point, it may have created a greater impact, but for now, one instantly switches to the older version.
The film starring Anil Kapoor, Juhi Chawla, Sonam Kapoor and Rajkumar Rao, is apparently based on same-sex love. The catch line also says, - The most unexpected romance of the year. This would definitely be a turning point in Hindi film history, as the same sex love angle has been rarely explored in mainstream movies, especially that pertaining to the female gender. Given the uniqueness of the story, we look forward for the rest of the album.
