'Mujhe Kaise Pata Na Chala' is a song from an era, when melody was 'king': Papon

MUMBAI: Papon’s debut collaboration with Meet Bros, Mujhe Kaise Pata Na Chala, gave us a heart-touching romantic song, which struck chords with all. Produced under the famous Bollywood twin music composer twin’s record label, MB Music, the video has garnered over 55 million views as of now. Papon, who was quite hopeful about the song, shared insights about this romantic number in an exclusive interview with Radioandmusic.

“It’s a beautiful song, which will remain in my list of personal favorites. It’s the rare combo of great lyrics and an equally beautiful and apt melody. I am very happy that people have shown so much love,” exclaimed Papon.

The song's melody reminds of the 90s era. On this, the singer shared, “It definitely is a song from the era, when ‘melody’ was king! It’s a rare song from today, which you feel like playing on loop as it has the soul of a hummable melody. I am happy that I got a melody like this to sing in today’s times.”

When asked, how according to him, does his song stand out from the crowd, the singer commented, “This song only will grow on you as time passes and will be in your playlist. It is not a hit of the moment, which goes away with time. It’s a simple and honest song so it’ll stand out and will withstand time.”

The song also marked the indie singer’s first collaboration with Meet Bros. He reveals his experience of working with them for MB Music.

“Yes it’s my first collaboration with Meet Bros and what a song to start with! It was amazing working with the boys.”

On being asked, how was his year 2018, the singer exclaimed, “This has been a memorable year in terms of a number of releases and some really special and diverse songs. I sang Jhuk Na Paunga from Raid and Qasam Kha Li from Bhavesh Joshi Super Hero, for both of my friends Amit Trivedi and Amitabh Bhattacharya. Then, I also crooned two beautiful songs by Anurag from Karwaan. Also, I sang a very unlike me song called Baba Bolta Hai from Sanju and then sang two songs from Sui Dhaga with my personal favorite Chaav Lagaa.”

“Besides, there are two very special reasons that made 2018 very special. Firstly, I did music for two movies, got a release this year. The first was lll Smoking Barrels and Ishqeria. The second reason is that I got the prestigious Assam State Film Awards honour for the best singer male for Assamese cinema this year,” he revealed, while sharing two special memories of his, from 2018.

Lastly, Papon signed off not before revealing his upcoming projects, both, Bollywood as well as independent music.

“I have a few songs in the pipeline but can’t talk about them yet. I’m also working on a movie as a music director. Apart from Bollywood, I’m working my new indie album and an original Ghazal album too,” he concluded.
