'Kyun Rabba' speaks about a broken heart: Amaal Mallik

MUMBAI: The first track from the upcoming Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu starrer Badla is out! The song was first unveiled at Radio Mirchi in Mumbai, India and globally. The track essentially speaks about a broken heart. This particular song surely has its own sonic character.

Brothers Amaal Mallik and Armaan Malik have worked on the track. While Amaal has composed the track, Kumaar has penned the lyrics and Armaan has given the vocals.

Speaking at the launch, Amaal says, “I was on my way back after hearing the story and the tune came up.  I immediately called up Kumar. I think Kumar is the best person who can put lyrics to a tune.”

“Yes, it essentially speaks about a broken heart. But I've still looked at adding finesse to it, instead of letting it sag into a depressive undertone of sorts. This tune came to me one evening while the narrative of this film kept doing the rounds of my mind. I had my mind fixed on the kind of sound and melody I wanted to create,” he further adds.

Amaal being a representative of this generation, also shares his views on current lyrics in the movies, “As a music composer, I try to strike a balance between good, lyrics which are relevant too for this generation. We should not forget that this generation is exposed to lot of global music too, therefore, we have to make our songs are relatable.”

Composer Amaal further adds, "Our industry holds a musical perception about each emotion that we may depict in our narrative. As music composers, our job is either to cater to that particular need or give it a contrast that grows on an audience in a way that it begins to sound more universal than just, obvious. For me, Kyun Rabba is the latter.”

Continuing further, he says, “We have to give credit to the director Sujoy Ghosh and the producers of the film, to find the balance for music in this rather dark movie. There are four-five songs in the movie, out of which I have composed one more track apart from this. The rest of the songs are composed by Clinton Cerejo.”

Also commenting about his collaborating with his younger brother Armaan, Amaal adds jokingly, “Despite he being such a massive star with strong following, for me he is a singer from whom I can get my scratches done. We have tiffs and arguments but, in the end, some magic works out. You will feel that magic in the song. But I have to say, at 23 to understand the lyrics and emotion of the song, the way he does, is amazing.”

Lastly, Amaal concludes, "This song and film is the first of many. It’s my first film with Sujoy Ghosh, first with SRK’s Red Chillies Entertainment and also the first with Tapsee Pannu. It’s such an honour to be one of the youngest composers to compose for a Mr. Bachchan film.”

Badla is presented by Red Chillies Entertainment in association with Azure Entertainment, produced by Gauri Khan, Gaurav Verma, Sunir Kheterpal and Akshai Puri, the crime thriller is directed by Sujoy Ghosh, starring Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu in the lead roles is slated to release on 8 March 2019.
