MUMBAI: “Ek artist wahi hota hai joh har cheez kar sakta hai and woh cheez accept kar sakta hai,” said rapper Ikka in an interview with Radioandmusic.
Rapper Ikka who has worked on songs like Dilbar, Paani Wala Dance, and others spoke to us on what he feels about the current rap music industry. He says, “Rap music is growing, people now understand this genre and mature writing can be seen in the industry. They have a writing style now, hip hop is growing now.
On being asked if GullyBoy is going to inspire more rappers, “Absolutely, that movie has brought in a change in the mindsets of people. There were so many struggling rappers in the country that people were not listening to. Hip Hop was considered as filler but now after GullyBoy people started getting serious. The movie has spread an awareness that this music is too a genre and rap is not a filler. Rap in itself is such a big thing that has changed countries in terms of rap music.”
“For me hip hop was always a big thing, I respect. It’s a genre through which you can share what you feel or want about in words and rhythm,” he adds.
No doubt rap music has spread when it comes to people acknowledging this genre. On being asked, how he would spread awareness about rap music, Ikka mentions, “Money is not the real power, knowledge is real power. We need to spread more knowledge about rap music. I believe in writing meaningful lyrics, I have written them and would release soon.”
On being further asked, how he balances making commercial music along with independent music, he says, “I always try to balance out that I also do commercial music so that I get shows, to run my house but I also do hip hop.”
Menawhile, the singer has released Body Language, a song sung, composed and written by Ikka along with THEMXXNLIGHT.
