MUMBAI: Singer Shalmali Kholgade, who has always amazed her audiences with her singing and various peppy numbers from Bollywood and Marathi films, has recently joined the Berklee College of Music, Boston which is one of the best school in the world, pursuing a course of aspire a five week summer program where she is learning song writing and musical theatre as her electives.
Talking about her new journey, Shalmali said, “I’m here because I think there’s a need to work on Musicianship to effectively be able to speak the language of music with fellow musicians. Communication is the key to getting more done faster and also to be able to make the translation of what’s in your head to what you want to play. I intend of learning that here.”
“I wanted to be in a musical environment that’s rich and diverse. A lot of learning is just listening. I hope to listen a lot here. I’ve wanted to sharpen my song writing skills for my independent music career,” she added.
It was Shalmali’s dream to study abroad but after getting her break in Bollywood films held her back as more and more offers started coming on her way and Shalmali got busy because of her work commitments and she hardly got time to spend for herself to learn different music forms. But now Shalmali has taken time out from her busy schedule to follow her dreams and passion in music and to learn different kinds of music while polishing her singing skills.
