MUMBAI: MTV announced the nominations for the 2019 Video Music Awards yesterday on 23 July 2019. Ariana Grande and Taylor Swift are topping the list with 10 nominations each, including nomination for Video Of The Year and Song Of The Year.
Billie Eilish and Lil Nas X follow with nine and eight nominations, respectively. Both are up for Best New Artist, while the 17-year-old songstress is also entered for Artist Of The Year, Push Artist of the Year and Best Pop, among other categories. Lil Nas X's smash Old Town Road, meanwhile, is up for Song of the Year, Best Hip Hop and Video of the Year.
Two new categories this year include Best K-pop and Video for Good. BTS and Halsey's Boy With Luv BLACKPINK's Kill This Love, Monsta X and French Montana's Who Do You Love, TOMORROW X TOGETHER's Cat & Dog, NCT 127's Regular and EXO's Tempo are up for Best K-pop.
Video for good nominees include Halsey's Nightmare, The Killers' Land of the Free, Jamie N Commons and Skylar Grey's Runaway Train featuring Gallant, John Legend's Preach," Lil Dicky's Earth and Swift's You Need to Calm Down.
Republic Records leads the labels with 25 nominations, thanks to Swift, Grande and the Jonas Brothers, who earned four nominations, followed by Columbia Records, which has 24 nominations.
Starting now through 15 Aug 2019, fans can vote for their favorite artists across 14 categories. Twitter and Facebook Messenger users can also slide into VMAs’ DMs to cast an additional vote, and Alexa owners can ask their device to ‘vote for the VMAs’ for Artist of the Year within the MTV skill. During VMA Power Hour, 1-2 p.m. ET daily, votes are doubled on the VMA website.
The 2019 VMAs, hosted by Sebastian Maniscalco, will air live from the Prudential Center in New Jersey on 26TH August at 9 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.
