Star World to telecast 50th Annual Grammy Awards live

MUMBAI: Star World will air the 50th Annual Grammy Award live on Monday 11 February from LA. Grammy's 2008 nominations include, hip-hop whiz kid Kanye West with eight nominations while British soul sensation Amy Winehouse with six. Also in the running are alternative rockers Foo Fighters, rapper Jay-Z and dance-pop singer Justin Timberlake, who received five nominations each.Other popular contenders are R&B songstress Rihanna and American Idol singer Chris Daughtry.

Indian music instruments show gets underway in London

Mumbai: An exhibition of over 300 exquisite and rare Indian musical instruments and performances by popular artistes will roll from Saturday at the Horniman Museum in southeast London. Titled 'Utsavam: Music from India', the nine-month long display is touted to be the biggest ever show of its kind, says a PTI report.To bring the instruments to life, there are videos and sound recordings collected during five years of field trips undertaken by the co-curators Margaret Birley and Rolf Killius in co-operation with the British Library's sound archive.

EBU announces radio pact with Uefa

MUMBAI: The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has signed a radio agreement with Uefa for the European Football Championship in 2008. Under the agreement, public service radio broadcasters will have access to technical reporting facilities at each of the matches in next summers tournament. The agreement covers radio broadcasters in 15 countries who were not already included in existing TV contracts for the tournament.

Sony Ericsson forges partnerships with 10 intl labels

Mumbai: Sony Ericsson announced deals with 10 major record labels at the recently concluded Midem conference in Cannes, France, adding over five million new tracks to its catalogue.The company also launched PlayNow Uncut, (formerly M-Buzz) a music promotional space for new, unsigned and developing artists. PlayNow Uncut showcases selected, previously unreleased tracks, videos, artwork, interviews, tour dates and other artist information on Sony Ericsson mobile phones and the web at www.playnow-uncut.com.

Saregama to hone screenwriting talent through workshop

Mumbai: Saregama India has affirmed its intentions of entering the feature film space by partnering teh British Council for 'The India Screenwriting Workshop' to be held in Goa in March. The workshop aims to develop and improve the quality of script writing in India, by honing the skills of budding script writers in the country. The workshop will be held in Goa from 17 to 23 March, with mentoring from industry experts.

Sachar alleges wrongful exclusion from 'Sunday' credits

Mumbai: Singer composer Raghav Sachar has alleged that he has been wrongfully left out of the credits on the album cover of Kumar Mangat's Sunday. Sachar, who composed the track Manzar for Sunday, says that while his name has been left out of the singers' list for the song, other singers who didn't lend their voice to it have been included.

BBC Worldwide makes senior appointments in audio and music biz

MUMBAI: BBC Worldwide's audio and music business, under a new five-year strategy developed to drive the exploitation of popular music and capitalise on the corporation's rich archive, has strengthened its team with several senior appointments. Jon Mansfield who was Emap Music MD has been appointed BBC Worldwide's audio and music business head of content development.Mansfield will be joined by Stephen Davies who comes on board as head of digital ventures and Salim Mukaddam, who has been promoted to head commercial affairs.

BBC's Asian Network launches extensive marketing campaign

MUMBAI: UK pubcaster the BBC has announced that Asian Network will launch its biggest marketing campaign next week across television, radio and online. The New Sound Of Asian Britain campaign launches on 4 February 2008 and profiles the network's passion for the best in Asian music and culture.The BBC TV trail creates a new musical soundtrack, composed specially from many shorter musical scenes layered and looped together. It mixes modern influences like drummers and DJs with more traditional Asian sounds and instruments including Bollywood singing.
