Ficci radio panel seeks MIB help vis-a-vis music industry

NEW DELHI: The Ficci Radio Forum has sent a memorandum to the I&B ministry requesting wide ranging policy reforms for the industry, including licenses across the country and allowing news, and also asked it to resolve issue between the industry and the music industry. Despite the Indian radio industry being a true mass medium, covering 97 per cent of the populace, available in 24 languages and 146 dialects, Ficci says it is facing a challenge from the Indian Performing Rights Society, IPRS and Phonographic Performance Ltd (PPL).

Ficci again calls for news and current affairs on FM Radio

NEW DELHI: While the number of FM Channels in the country has grown from ten to more than 200, the penetration of radio has only risen marginally from 45 to 53 per cent since the channels are not able to give creative programming in the absence of permission to broadcast news and current affairs.

Hello FM ties up with INCOIS for weather forecast service

MUMBAI: Hello FM has tied up with 'Indian National Center for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS)' to give information about the sea conditions every day on their radio channel. The information will include the height of the wave, direction and speed of the wind, ocean current, potential fish finding zones and also gives early warnings on depression on the sea, cyclones and tsunami alerts.

My FM launches in Jodhpur

MUMBAI: The Bhaskar Group's My FM launched in Jodhpur on Wednesday, making it My FM's 14th station launch nationally and the fourth for the state of Rajasthan after Jaipur, Udaipur and Ajmer. The group has three more launches planned after this - in Kota, Jabalpur and Raipur, which will complete its launch plans for all 17 circles it has license to operate in, says a release.

T-Series challenges RGV's allegations

MUMBAI: Commenting on the allegations made by Ram Gopal Varma wherein he stated that he has formally terminated an MOU with Super Cassettes Industries Ltd for audio and home video rights of 14 films, Super Cassettes Industries CMD Bhushan Kumar states that RGV's allegations are completely false and baseless. He also explains that T-Series has fulfilled all the obligations as per the terms and conditions of the "Memorandum of Understanding" (dated 13 June 2006) between Ram Gopal Varma Films Pvt Ltd and Super Cassettes Industries Ltd (T-Series).

Soundbuzz, Exploit launch new music download service

MUMBAI: Online and mobile music company Soundbuzz has launched an online store offering high fidelity songs, supported by technology from Exploit Technologies. According to the company, the first of its kind store utilises a pioneering technology, known as SLS (Scalable-to-Lossless), which allows consumers to purchase a standard quality song, and then "top up" to receive a high audio fidelity (lossless) version of the same song at a later date. Consumers are also able to synchronise the purchased songs to their mobile handsets.
