Inspired by John Wick, rappers KARMA & Raftaar announce Baba Yaga

MUMBAI: 22-year-old rapper from Dehradun, Vivek Arora who goes by the stage name KARMA is all set to make some noise among the Indian hip hop heads. The Kalamkaar signee will be seen spitting bars and rhymes when he unleashes his brand-new single titled Baba Yaga yesterday.

Taking inspiration from Keanu Reeves’ titular assassin character in American neo-noir action-thriller film John Wick, this lyrical masterpiece is produced by rapper, music director and composer Raftaar, who previously collaborated with KARMA on his single Main Wahi Hoon from his eponymous second album, Mr. Nair.

KARMA states, “Baba Yaga is the nick name of John Wick. There is one saga of him where he killed three men in a bar with just a pencil. Here, I have connected my story with his, where no matter what the world throws at you, all an artist needs is his pen to fight back! The song reflects my life, from where I started to where I stand today. As a student who had to forego his education because of the untimely passing away of his father to jugging jobs as a call center employee and as an ATM guard in order to support the family and make ends meet, to finally fulfilling my dream of being part of the Indian hip-hop family, life really hasn’t been a bed of roses. This song of mine is dedicated to everyone out there trying to make a mark. Success is never overnight and don’t take shortcuts. I have taken the ethical route to earn the recognition.”

Raftaar adds, “I am super excited about this track. For the uninitiated, KARMA is the only rapper who can rap inspite of facing a shortcoming of stammering. Infact Raghav Juviyal's brother Yashasvi had directed a short film on KARMA called *I Stammer When I Talk* which highlighted this amazing gift he has. He’s one person I believe in as he has always overcome every obstacle that life has thrown at him. I’m very proud of his career trajectory.”

Having previously performed at the ZI RO festival in Nagaland, KARMA has steadfastly built a fanbase of 75000 followers over a period of 2 years with each of his singles organically reaching a 2 million view benchmark. His discography includes songs like Rap Karte Hain (2018), We Wake Up (2018), Main Wahi Hoon (2019), Take Diss (2019), Warm Up (2019) and Karmasutra (2019)
