MUMBAI: Billie Eilish is a known Childish Gambino stan, and on the latest segment of "me & dad radio" on Apple Music, she discussed two of her favorite songs by him.
"This is our Finneas episode -- full of childhood bops, some inspirational songs me and Finneas have loved over the years, some songs we've shown each other, songs that we've been inspired by," the "bad guy" singer said while announcing her special guest and brother Finneas for the fifth episode last Friday, July 31.
While cueing up The Black Eyed Peas' "Boom Boom Pow," Avril Lavigne's "Complicated," Green Day's "21 Guns," The All-American Rejects' "Move Along," Justin Timberlake's "Cry Me a River" and more in her and Finneas' joint playlist, the 18-year-old shared some words about Gambino's impact on her when "Bonfire" from his 2011 album Camp started playing.
"This is from the album I think both me and Finneas found Donald Glover through. Incredible album. The first song I heard ever from him, and was actually I think the first song I heard that was like rap, was 'Heartbeat' from this album," she said.
"From then on, everybody knows that Donald Glover is like… one of my all-time favorite creators. He’s exactly everything that I idolize about a creator. He’s every single element of what I think is amazing."
Their father Patrick O'Connell, who co-hosts and -DJs the Apple Music radio show with Eilish, further described the impact Gambino (real name Donald Glover) had on her career, calling him as a "paradigm for you in his global outlook" by wearing many hats in the entertainment industry as an actor, singer, writer, performer, artist and video director.
Eilish later gave Gambino props for "the most hardcore bars I've ever heard" in "Bonfire." Finneas pointed out the first line as their favorite lyric, "Okay, it's Childish Gambino, homegirl drop it like the NASDAQ," which was met with a bough of laughs from the O'Connell family.
"I love that it's three minutes long because you just rap the whole thing along, like I rap it along, and then it's done. It's like the whole thing, and boom," she concluded.
