MUMBAI: ‘Sthiti' Azadi Records and 4/4 Experiences are proud to present visuals for Sthiti, the latest single off Swadesi's critically acclaimed debut record Chetavni. A sleeper hit off the record, Sthiti saw the debut of the Mumbai-based multilingual hip-hop crew's producer BamBoy as a hard-hitting, razor-sharp MC. The track details the situation of the country as BamBoy sees it, offering a critique of various issues that have plagued the Indian state since it attained independence in 1947. Speaking of disparity, division, and death, the song touches upon everything from the hard work of late-night sellers to religious partition to the unjust division of the rich and poor. With a special focus on issues such as the Save Aarey movement, a grassroots efforts to prevent the destruction of vital forest cover and tribal land in the heart of Mumbai and the lengths that poor people in the city need to go to in order to survive, BamBoy's debut as a lyricist and MC has earned widespread acclaim from Swadesi's fanbase and beyond.
The uniquely stylised lyric video is conceptualised and animated by Ashwini Hiremath showcases BamBoy's innovative penmanship and ability to piece together complex narratives in the form of comic panels reminiscent of the witty and scathing pieces made by cartoonists such as Anis Wani, RK Laxman and others.
The Album - ‘Chetavni'
Chetavni, Swadesi's debut full-length record, saw them earn widespread critical acclaim and has seen them be nominated as one of the best hip-hop acts in the country at The Indies Awards 2020. With the world in turmoil due to an authoritarian government flexing its muscles amidst a global pandemic, Swadesi's music has become a critical part of the socio-political discourse in Indian society.
