MUMBAI: Armaan Malik who released his first-ever English single, ‘Control’ in March has bagged an MTV EMA for the same. With a mile-long musical resume, the 25-year-old has cemented his position in the South Asian music industry, and this accolade catapults Armaan’s position further as a multilingual singer-songwriter in the global music circuit.
Expressing his excitement on yet another colossal achievement in 2020, Armaan said, “I’ve just had the most unreal year so far and this win at the EMA’s just made it better by a million notches! ‘Control’ is my debut English single and to have received this kind of love, support, and recognition at a global level so early on in my journey makes me really emotional. I want to thank all my ‘Armaanians’ across the world who voted for me without whom this would not have been possible. They just shower me with so much love and I feel like the luckiest guy on the planet! Last but not the least, this win is dedicated to all those young Indian kids who dare to dream and work hard to make them come true, this is for you. Dream on!”
Earlier this year, he became the first Indian singer-songwriter to be featured on the coveted Spotify Times Square billboard in New York and ‘Control’ also achieved Platinum status in India. In 2020, he released 16 songs including his second English single ‘next 2 me,’ that led Billboard's inaugural Top Triller U.S. and Global charts for three weeks. Malik’s ‘Butta Bomma’ has become the most viewed Telugu song ever on YouTube garnering upwards of 400 million views. With Hindi songs like ‘Zara Thehro’, ‘Beech Raaste’, and ‘Mera Intezaar Karna’, he has consistently trended on streaming platforms and established himself as one of the most versatile exports of the Indian music industry.
“I have two singles that are in the pipeline and will release by the end of the year. One is in Hindi and the other is in English but I can’t reveal much about either at this point. I also have some international collaborations planned for 2021. So yeah, looking forward to a bunch of cool and exciting stuff,” Armaan concludes on what’s incoming for his fans sooner than they expect.
