MUMBAI: It’s almost time to bid adieu to 2020 and welcome 2021, but COVID-19 hasn’t left yet. With social-distancing norms and the recently imposed night curfew, people all over the country are facing the dilemma of celebrating the new year.
While most would prefer attending or host an intimate party with family and a few close friends, there are still others who will ignore caution and advisories. Taking the onus of creating awareness about such COVIdiots all around us, Vh1 India has launched a quirky social-media campaign ‘COVIdiotsAreOutThere’ leading to the last day of the most turbulent year. Vh1 is reminding citizens to steer clear of such irresponsible and reckless people around them, through a series of specially created videos, brand films and slapstick memes.
Commenting on the campaign, Navin Shenoy – Marketing Head, Youth, Music, and English Entertainment, Viacom18, said, “While the vaccine starts to roll-out, the world is still continuing to adapt and adjust to the new normal. It is the responsibility of every individual to do their bit to ensure the situation doesn’t get out of hand, especially during festivities and celebration of events like New Year’s Eve. We realize that people want to celebrate the end of 2020 even more cause of the restraint they have shown since the start of the pandemic. But a moment’s carelessness can quash months of safety efforts and precautionary measures we’ve all practiced and maintained. Our campaign aims to reiterate this very point, that despite the holiday season, Covid-19 is still very much spreading rapidly. Thus, we’re calling on our viewers and citizens of the country to party safely and responsibly, through a funny offbeat campaign that doesn’t come across as a monotonous PSA message.”
Grabbing the attention of viewers with lyrics from all-time greatest pop tracks and witty slogans, Vh1 is also showcasing safety signs on the types of COVIdiots that can cross us.
