Rana Barua joins radio judging panel at NY Festivals

MUMBAI: Radio City Executive Vice President and National Head – Programming and Marketing Rana Barua has been chosen to join the judging panel for the New York Festivals 2009 Radio Programming and Promotion Awards. It is the first time that a professional from the Indian radio fraternity has made it to the Radio jury for the NY festivals. This will be Barua's first stint at the New York Festivals. He has previously been part of the jury for other Indian awards, such as the Emvies, Promax in addition to awards in advertising.

Ofcom lifts rule on radio station format change

MUMBAI: Ofcom has lifted the two year Format change rule which prevented new commercial radio stations from applying for a Format change during their first two years on-air. The sudden change of heart at Ofcom affects 16 stations (listed below) which are still operating within their original Format, pre the Future of Radio consultation. Now those stations may apply to change their Format, which can include lifting restrictions on co-location agreements and the amount of networking.

Kerala govt to present 'Gold Medals' to AR Rahman, Gulzar and Resul Pookutty

MUMBAI: The Kerala government will accord a civic reception to music maestro A R Rahman, lyricist Gulzar and sound engineer Resul Pookutty, for their Oscar-winning feat for the film "Slumdog Millionaire" and present them gold medals, says PTI report Announcing a cabinet decision in this regard, chief minister V S Achuthanandan told reporters that the date for civic reception would be decided as per the award winners' convenience. The government would present each of them a gold medal, he said.

Ofcom pulls up B4U Music on ringtones issue

MUMBAI: B4U Music, UK has invited the ire of the British media regulator Ofcom for offering ringtones of songs to viewers. The watchdog has asked the broadcaster for its comments in relation to Rule 10.3, which states that products and services must not be promoted within programmes. This rule does not apply to programme-related material....

"Digital technologies here to stay" - BES Expo

MUMBAI: The BES Expo 2009 - 15th  International Conference and Exhibition on Terrestrial and Satellite Broadcasting began in New Delhi on Monday. The Expo will be held from 23 to 25 February at halls 12 and 12A, of Pragati Maidan expo centre. Broadcast Engineering Society (India), the society of broadcast professionals organises this International Conference and Exhibition on Terrestrial and Satellite broadcasting every year. Mobile music revenues to reach $14.6bn by '13 - Juniper Research

MUMBAI: A sharp fall in ringtone revenues will be more than offset by growth in full-track downloads, streamed music services and ringback tones, according to a new report from Juniper Research which forecasts that global revenues from mobile music services will reach nearly $14.6bn by 2013.

Wishes flow in for Sridhar's family

MUMBAI: Audio engineer H Sridhar has had a great part in the success of A R Rahman. Sridhar, who passed away on 1 December 2008 of a cardiac arrest, was the chief sound engineer for almost all of Rahman's films and also created the final copy of Slumdog Millionaire.
