Legendary tabla maestro Zakir Hussain passes away

MUMBAI: The Indian classical music world is in mourning as the renowned tabla maestro Zakir Hussain passed away today at the age of 73. The news has sent shockwaves across the globe, with fans and fellow musicians paying tribute to the legendary artist.

According to sources close to the family, Zakir Hussain was hospitalized in San Francisco for two weeks before being moved to the ICU as his condition deteriorated. He breathed his last at 3:45 am IST, surrounded by his loved ones.

Born on March 9, 1951, in Mumbai, India, Zakir Hussain was the eldest son of the legendary tabla player Ustad Alla Rakha. He began performing publicly at the age of seven and touring internationally by twelve, showcasing his prodigious talent and following in his father's illustrious footsteps.
