MUMBAI: Yashraj, one of India’s most prominent hip-hop voices, is closing out 2024 with a powerful new single titled ‘SANATAN’. Produced in collaboration with NEVERSOBER, ‘SANATAN’ brings Mumbai’s essence to life through primal, percussion-heavy rhythms and sharp storytelling, reflecting the hunger, grit, and ambition that defines the city’s spirit.
The track dives deep into the realities of Yashraj’s journey—exploring the middle-class mindset, societal expectations, and personal ambitions while pushing back against stereotypes of what it means to be a hip-hop artist in this space. Infused with anecdotes and reflections from his own life, ‘SANATAN’ balances thought-provoking lyrics with grand, cinematic production, delivering an immersive sonic experience that is both raw and refined.
Speaking about the track, Yashraj shares, “Being a Punjabi from Mumbai, growing up around Marathi friends, living in a Gujarati area, studying in a school built by Parsis, and a college run by Sindhis—this is the essence of the city I call home. It’s my roots, my reality, and my connection with Mumbai that drives this track. I AM MUMBAI.”
Yashraj has had a monumental year in 2024. With over 2 million monthly Spotify listeners and 100,000 Instagram followers, he’s solidified his place as a rising force in Indian hip-hop. His 7-track EP ‘Meri Jaan Pehle Naach’ earned over 1.2 million Spotify streams, showcasing his versatility as both a rapper and songwriter. Yashraj also made waves with his debut Bollywood song ‘Ishq Nachaawe’ from Kho Gaye Hum Kahan, now the album’s most-streamed track with over 35 million streams. Capping off his achievements, he opened for artists like G-Eazy and Pusha T during their Mumbai shows and managed to pull of a 10 city tour across India for his own project.
Now streaming across all major platforms, ‘SANATAN’ arrives with an accompanying track visualizer, set to drop on Yashraj’s official YouTube channel. The single not only wraps up Yashraj’s incredible 2024 but also paves the way for what promises to be an even bigger and bolder 2025, as he continues to push creative boundaries and represent Mumbai’s unrelenting spirit.
