Jennie of BLACKPINK marks historic solo debut at Coachella 2025, reflects on emotional journey

MUMBAI: A landmark moment in music history unfolded at Coachella 2025 when BLACKPINK’s Jennie made her much-anticipated solo debut, lighting up the iconic Empire Polo Club in California. The global festival, held over two weekends in April, drew thousands of fans to the desert for unforgettable performances — with Jennie’s solo stage standing out as a career-defining milestone.

At 29, the K-pop sensation stepped into the spotlight alone for the first time, delivering a powerful set marked by precision, passion, and commanding presence. Nearly a month later, on May 7, Jennie appeared on the popular South Korean talk show You Quiz on the Block, where she opened up about her Coachella experience. She revealed she spent an intense 16 months preparing every detail of her performance, highlighting the dedication behind the historic moment.

Speaking on the show, as reported by Soompi, Jennie described Coachella as “one of the biggest music festivals in the world,” bringing together countless artists in the desert across two weekends. Yet, despite the magnitude of the event, she admitted to feeling anxious beforehand, unsure if the massive crowd — estimated at 250,000 — would show up for her solo set.

“Even while I was on stage, I was overwhelmed by the energy,” she shared. “I don’t know why I felt so emotional, but it truly felt like I was being rewarded for all the hard work and determination that went into preparing.” Jennie confessed, “Before the performance, I kept wondering, ‘Will people come to watch?’ But when I looked out from the stage, I couldn’t see the end of the crowd.”

When asked if she had watched her own performance, Jennie admitted she had viewed it twice — a rare move for her. “I normally avoid monitoring myself because I tend to overthink,” she said. “But I did watch parts of Coachella. Not because it was perfect, but because I genuinely gave it my all.”

Her electrifying set featured fan-favorite tracks from her new album Ruby, including Zen, Handlebars, Mantra, and her powerful anthem Like JENNIE, solidifying her place as a solo force on the global stage.
