Kendrick Lamar leads 2025 American Music Awards nominations, faces off against Swift, Beyonce, and more

MUMBAI: Grammy winner and Super Bowl performer Kendrick Lamar is at the forefront of this year’s American Music Awards (AMAs), leading the nominations with 10 nods. The star-studded ceremony will take place on Monday in Las Vegas and will be broadcast live on CBS starting at 8 p.m. Eastern (Midnight GMT). Singer and actress Jennifer Lopez is set to host the red-carpet event.

Lamar is in the running for the night’s biggest honor, Artist of the Year, competing against pop icon Taylor Swift—who holds a record 40 AMAs—and is fresh off the most successful concert tour in history. Other contenders in the category include Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, SZA, Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, Morgan Wallen, and Zack Bryan.

Lamar’s chart-topping diss track “Not Like Us,” stemming from his high-profile feud with Drake, is nominated for Song of the Year. The track, which he performed at the Super Bowl and which won five Grammys, is currently at the center of a defamation lawsuit filed by Drake against Universal Music Group.

Post Malone has also made a strong showing, earning eight nominations—including Favorite Male Country Artist and Favorite Country Album for F-1 Trillion. Known for his genre-crossing appeal, Malone has previously won in both rap/hip hop and pop/rock categories.

Beyoncé, whose album Cowboy Carter took top honors at this year’s Grammys, is nominated for Album of the Year and Favorite Country Album. She’s also in the running for Favorite Female Country Artist.

The night will also feature special honors: Janet Jackson will receive the Icon Award for her global influence in music, while Rod Stewart will be celebrated with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Performances are slated from Jennifer Lopez, Janet Jackson, Rod Stewart, Benson Boone, Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani, and Lainey Wilson, promising a dynamic and diverse show.
