27-year old collapses at Vh1 Supersonic 2014 in Goa

MUMBAI: Electronic Dance Music (EDM) has once again come into the limelight for drug abuse allegation, after reports of 27-year old Isha Mantry’s death due to a supposed drug overdose surfaced. She was attending the EDM festival Vh1 Supersonic in Candolim, Goa, along with her friends.

It is reported that she attended all four days of the festival and on the fourth day, at the end of the festival she collapsed and subsequently died at a local hospital. According to various reports, Goa Police registered a case of unnatural death.

Police sources said that the deceased Isha Mantry, a fashion designer from Mumbai, had arrived in Goa to attend the EDM fest along with her friends. Festival organiser, Live Viacom 18, has not issued a statement yet, but may issue one soon.

This is not the first such incident to happen at an electronic dance music festival. There was a similar case in 2009, when a 23- year- old died of multiple organ failure due to drug overdose. She was attending the three-day Sunburn Festival in Goa.

In India, this can be accounted as the second drug-related death at an EDM festival. Most EDM festivals claim to be drug-free and are monitored by the police, which was the case here as well. Both festivals- Sunburn and Supersonic have always stated that they are drug-free festivals.

Currently, experts are conducting a post mortem on Mantry.
