Ami Mishra contemplated going back to Indore before bagging song in 'Hamari Adhuri Kahani'

MUMBAI: Ami Mishra, who composed 'Hasi' from the film 'Hamari Adhuri Kahani', has had the ultimate overnight-success story. Being an MBA, and working for a huge multinational company, Mishra's interest in corporate life diminished, and he wanted to do something in music, much like his college days.

"I had a band in college and I would play locally. Since then I have had a keen interest in music. As a band, we tried participating in reality shows. After I passed my MBA I worked for a multinational company, but then I lost interest in the corporate job and wanted to get back to music. So I quit my job and started playing at restaurants," said Mishra. Although his parents were not very happy with the idea of playing at restaurants, he continued pursuing his passion and shifted to Mumbai to become a singer. "I come from a middle class family, and shifting to a city where I did not know anyone with only a dream of becoming a singer, was something that was a dream for us," he added.

After struggling for a few months he went to the office of Vishesh Films, but was unable to meet Mukesh Bhatt. "The financial condition my home was not that great. I even contemplated going back to Indore. Fortunately, I did not and within a week I got a call from the office of Vishesh Films informing that my song 'Hasi' was selected. Then I did not know which movie was it going to be featured in, but I was happy," he said. When asked how it feels when biggies like Mithoon praise him for the song, he could not find the right words to describe his happiness.

Director Mohit Suri, as always, did not interfere in the creative process, even when it came to choosing a female singer for the track, which eventually went to Shreya Ghoshal. "I needed a mature voice since the song is featured on Vidya ma'am. The best part was Mohit Sir even asked me to come to watch the theater version of the song to see if I like the picturisation or not," he said. With the song becoming a rage, his parents are extremely proud of him.

Along with Bollywood projects, he also wants to make independent music. Mishra has also been signed by EMI Records along with Anmol Malik.
