MUMBAI: The recent powerful video titled 'Start with the Boys' by Vogue India, offered a strong message in a simple way, through both, the visuals and the sound. The music for the short film, directed by Vinil Mathew and produced by Alex Kuruvilla, was given by music composer Dhruv Ghanekar. The guitarist-music composer will have much more to offer the coming year.
Ghanekar was approached by Kuruvilla, to work on the music side of the short film. "I happily volunteered as it is for a good cause. The music accompanying the video is not sentimental but it is a music that leads you to a direction," said Ghanekar. Previously, he was also associated with NGO Akanksha artistically. "I have worked for many such projects but the timing of the recent short film was apt due to the social undercurrent existing around the topic of gender equality," he added. He has composed for various channel identities including music for BBC 1, Star News, Sony, MAX, Sony Six and MTV amongst others.
Ghanekar, who is also a founding partner of BlueFrog, has scored for films like 'Bombay Boys', 'White Noise', 'Drona' and 'Arjun', and continues to work on such projects. Along with other projects and commitments, the Smoke Studios co-founder is working on his next album 'Voyage'.
His new album will be a fusion of sounds from Africa, India, Europe and America. Ghanekar said, "The new album is about the journey of different sounds from different parts of the world. The album will have more vocals." The nine-track album will be sold along with a three-track EP for free. The album is expected to be out in January 2015 and shooting for the first music video will start in January.
The album will be launched under his label 'Wah Wah Music'. He has claimed to have learnt a lot during the release of his last album 'Distance', with BlueFrog in 2009, which he plans to keep in mind while promote the new album.
After his new album, he plans to revamp the way he performs live gigs. He will announce his new gigs after the launch of 'Voyage'.
