Foo Fighters to headline Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury 2015

MUMBAI: American rockers- Foo Fighters have confirmed that the band will be headlining Glastonbury 2015. The announcement came via a recorded message at the NME Awards while frontman Dave Grohl accepted the title for Best International Band. Grohl said that the Grammy winning band will be playing at the renowned music festival, which is to be held from 24 to 28 June this year.

The announcement makes Foo Fighters the first major act to be revealed for this year’s event. The official Glastonbury website confirmed that the band will headline the Pyramid Stage on Friday 26 June.  The Foo Fighters last performed at the iconic festival in 1998, leading Grohl to state that a performance slot was “overdue”.

Organiser, Emily Eavis seemed happy to comply, stating, "We feel incredibly lucky to have confirmed the Foo Fighters for the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury this year. Very few bands have the power to unite and energise a crowd like Foo Fighters do. We can’t wait for them to rock Worthy Farm on Friday night."

Tickets for Glastonbury 2015 got sold out last October, but there will be a resale of returned and cancelled in a few month’s time. Glastonbury also won the Best Festival award at the recently held NME Awards.

Meanwhile, the only other act to have been announced for the festival is Lionel Ritchie. The soul icon will perform on the Pyramid Stage during the Sunday teatime slot, marking his debut UK festival appearance.
