'Furious 7' soundtrack album tops charts, 'See You Again' dominates Spotify streams

MUMBAI: For the first time in over 10 years, a film's soundtrack has topped the Billboard 200 albums chart. The 'Furious 7: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack' claimed the top spot on Billboard, while one of the album's tracks- 'See You Again' by Wiz Khalifa featuring Charlie Puth, topped the Hot 100 songs chart.

Since releasing last month, the 'Furious 7' soundtrack steadily climbed the Billboard chart. The multi-artist compilation album certainly was boosted by the track 'See You Again', which is a tribute to the late Paul Walker, who played one of the film's central characters in the Fast and Furious series.

According to reports, 'See You Again' also became the most-streamed song on music streaming service- Spotify. The track was streamed a whopping of 4.2 million times on 13 April, and is the number one track on Spotify in more than 25 countries, including the US and UK. It also made history by becoming the most streamed song on Spotify in a week, racking up a total of 21.9 million streams, worldwide.

The 'Furious 7' soundtrack follows suit of several other films whose soundtracks also made it to Billboard's number one.The last film soundtrack to top Billboard's album chart was the '8 Mile' soundtrack in 2003. The album's chart topping track- 'Lose Yourself' stayed at number one for 11 weeks. Other films that had chart topping soundtrack albums include 'Titanic', 'The Bodyguard', 'Dirty Dancing', 'Dangerous Mind' and 'La Bamba', amongst others.
