MUMBAI: The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has officially announced its list of inductees for the class of 2015, which include Green Day, Lou Reed, Joan Jett and the Black Hearts, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble, Paul Butterfield Blues Band and Bill Withers. The ceremony will also honour former Beatles drummer Ringo Starr with the Award for Musical Excellence, while "5” Royales, the 1950s R&B group will be given the Early Influence Award.
Artistes become eligible for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25 years after the release of their first single or album. American rock band- Green Day, which released its debut EP '1000' in 1989, has become eligible for the honour in its first year of eligibility.
Meanwhile, late guitarist Lou Reed was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996 when he was part of the band- The Velvet Underground. However, after splitting from the outfit in 1970, Reed embarked on a solo career in 1972. Come April 2015, Reed who passed away last October, will be inducted into the Hall of Fame as a solo artiste.
Like Reed, guitar god Stevie Ray Vaughan will be a posthumous inductee, along with his backing band- Double Trouble. Starr, who was an inductee in 1988 while a part of the Beatles, will also be inducted as a solo artiste next April. He will join his three former band mates, all of whom have been previously inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as solo artistes.
Speaking of the class of 2015 inductees, Hall President Joel Peresman said, "As we mark 30 years of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductions, we're proud to honor these artists. These inductees epitomise rock and roll's impact over the past 50 years and continuing through today."
The induction ceremony is scheduled to take place on 18 April 2015 at Cleveland's Public Hall, and will be open for the general public to attend. Tickets for the event will be on sale from Thursday, 18 December 2014.
