MUMBAI: Josh Greenberg, co- founder of Grooveshark, the recently discontinued music streaming service, was found dead at his home in Florida, on 19 July, 2015. Reasons for his death remain unconfirmed, whoever, police have ruled out foul play or suicide. Greenberg’s mother, Lori Greenberg also confirmed that her son was in good health.
“They are as baffled as I am,” said Lori Greenberg said in reports. An autopsy test was conducted, but it offered no reasons to his death. A toxicology report that was also conducted is expected in two or three months. Despite the music service shutting down, his mother said that Greenberg was “excited” about potential new things.
Greenberg and his girlfriend, Abby Mayer, shared his house. Mayer told reporters that he had not been ill or was not prescribed any medicine. She was away for a weekend and when she returned, she found him lying on the bed. As per the statement given by her to the police, Mayer last spoke to him at 1.30 am. She called up authorities at 7.00 pm, post returning home.
28-year old Greenberg was also a founding member of Gainesville Technology Council, which is run by the city's Chamber of Commerce. Grooveshark, which was established in 2007 and operated by Escape Media Group, faced a number of copyright violations, and had to eventually shut down April, 2015 due to copyright infringement.
