MUMBAI: Indie fusion act Hammer N Thong will release the second single from their EP ‘Non Conformity’ towards the end of September, confirmed one half of the duo act, Avril Quadros. The single titled ‘Imprisoned’ will be a dubstep-infused track with heavy influences of American DJ Skrillex’s works, she added. Quadros, along with guitarist Brian Christopher Bangera, play together as Hammer N Thong. The band released its first single from ‘Non Conformity’ called ‘You Make My Knees (Go Weak)’ on Tuesday, 23 June.
Speaking on the inspiration behind ‘You Make My Knees (Go Weak)’, Quadros said, “A while back, Brian sent me a Spanish influenced music track that had just guitar and drums, and it matched my emotional state then. I was texting someone and he really intrigued and appealed to me in a very sexual way. I immediately wrote what I felt and the lyrics of the song were ready in forty minutes.”
When asked to explain the EP’s title- ‘Non Conformity’, Quadros said, “We do not want to conform or restrict our music to one particular genre. We do not want to be labelled as an act that performs one particular genre of music. Our music has different flavours and we take into consideration what our listeners would like to listen to.”
For the track, Hammer N Thong worked with Indian slide guitar maestro Prakash Sontakke, who has lent his Carnatic vocals to the track. According to Quadros, Sontakke added a gypsy, Rajashthani vibe to his vocals. Sontakke was recently credited as co-composer on the Grammy Award winning new age album, ‘Winds of Samsara’. Quadros also added that instead of charging a nominal fee, a man of his repute, he just asked for a cup of tea.
Quadros further stated that she will next be seen in the music video of her own track called, ‘Sab Chalta Hain (Bhai India Hain)’, which she plans to release in August this year, close to the Indian Independence Day. After that, she also plans to release a special Hindi dub-step track for Diwali, sometime towards the end of October or early November.
Quadros also stated that Hammer N Thong will be performing nationwide at Hard Rock Cafe and blueFROG starting this September.
