MUMBAI: Jimi Hendrix's historic Atlanta Pop concert on 4 July, 1970 is perhaps one his most memorable, witnessed by an attendance of 300,000-400,000 people. The late guitar god will now be featured in a live album and a documentary, both of which will focus on the Atlanta Pop Concert. The album- ‘Freedom: Atlanta Pop Festival’, will be released on 28th August, 2015.
‘Freedom: Atlanta Pop Festival’ will be available as a 2 CD or 2-LP vinyl set and will include tracks from Hendrix’s wide catalogue like ‘Fire’, ‘Lover Man’, ‘Spanish Castle Magic’ and others, which were performed at the concert. The album will be released under Experience Hendrix and Legacy Recordings, and the first 5,000 vinyl copies will be numbered individually, making them a collector’s item.
Meanwhile, the documentary titled ‘Jimi Hendrix: Electric Church’ will premiere on SHOWTIME on 4th September, 2015. The DVD/Blu-Ray will be released on 30th October, 2015, and will have bonus content that will not be televised. The documentary includes interviews with Paul McCartney, Steve Winwood, Kirk Hammett, and band members Billy Cox and the late Mitch Mitchell. It will also feature an interview with the concert organiser Alex Cooley.
Held from 3rd to 5th July, 1970, that particular edition of the Atlanta Pop Music Festival, witnessed over 30 musical acts, and is said to be the largest American audience Hendrix ever performed to.
