MUMBAI: After months of heightened anticipation, Mumbai-based blues act Kanchan Daniel and the Beards will finally release its debut album in October this year, confirmed bassist Anand Kamath. He revealed that recording of the seven-track, debut album is currently underway and that it will feature both, old and new material.
“So far, the drums and the keys part have been recorded, and the bass track is under way,” said Kamath. When asked on the music of the album, he said, “The album will have slow jazz-y numbers, hard-hitting blues numbers, along with some good pumpy music.” He further added that the music of the band can be enjoyed by everyone; people who love blues and those who have not heard a lot of blues. The album, featuring songs written by the band’s vocalist, Kanchan Daniel, consists of blues-genre tribute song, ‘Why I Sing the Blues’, raging blues number, ‘Black Heart’, dedication to Layla Zoe’s stage persona through ‘Blue Rain’, spy love story inspired – ‘Tick Tock’ and a soul-soaked number, ‘SOS’ to name a few. “We come up with the tune and the melody in the jam room and then Kanchan later adds the lyrics. Sometimes, she thinks of a tune and we work together on the melody,” added Kamath.
He also said that work on the album started earlier this year, with a scheduled release date in March, however, it was postponed. Kamath added that along with the release of the album in October, there are plans to have a promotional tour for release. He also said that they plan to release a single and a music video with it, probably towards the end of September.
Kamath also said that the band hopes to play at the NH7 Weekender 2015. On that, he added that the band sent its recently-created band profile to OML and is waiting to hear from them. Kanchan Daniel and the Beards have performed at a number of live events including Vans New Wave Musicfest, Ragasthan and the Live Music Project.
Speaking on the band’s primary musical influences, Kamath cited the music of legendary American guitarists Chuck Berry and BB King.
