MUMBAI: Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger will be executive producer for an upcoming 'rock 'n' roll' drama series for Home Box Office (HBO) along with Academy Award winner Martin Scorsese. Set in 1970s New York, the series will explore the drug and sex-fuelled music business as punk and disco were breaking out, all through the eyes of a record executive trying to resurrect his label and find the next new sound.
James Jagger, the oldest of Jagger's three sons and former front-man of rock band Turbogeist, will play the lead singer of punk band Nasty Bits in the series.
Screen Actors' Guild (SAG) Award nominee Bobby Cannavale will play Richie Finestra, the founder and president of a top-tier record label called American Century Records with a great ear for discovering talent, who undergoes a crisis of character when confronted with a life-altering decision. Other actors joining the high profile drama include SAG Award nominee Olivia Wilde, Emmy Award winner Ray Romano and British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Rising Star Award winner Juno Temple.
Jagger has recently produced the film 'Get On Up', which was about the life of multiple Grammy Award winning singer James Brown. He also recently shared his condolences over Facebook about the loss of saxophone player Bobby Keys, who worked with The Rolling Stones on their albums, 'Let It Bleed', 'Sticky Fingers', 'Exile on Main St.', 'Goats Head Soup', 'Emotional Rescue', 'Stripped', 'Shine a Light Live Licks' and 'Sweet Summer Sun'. "Bobby made a unique musical contribution to the band since the 1960s. He will be greatly missed," Jagger was quoted on the official Rolling Stones website.
