MUMBAI: You would think that after her controversial performance at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, it would be a while before Miley Cyrus was seen in a prominent role at the VMAs. Well, think again. While the ‘Wrecking Ball’ hitmaker might not be performing at this year's MTV VMAs, she has been revealed as this year’s host.

Cyrus took to her official Facebook page to reveal the news in her standard, quirky way. Posing in a green alien outfit, she divulged the news, which has also been confirmed by MTV.

Perhaps Cyrus will be a slightly toned down version of herself as host of this year’s VMAs, especially after drawing the ire of viewers for her performance at the awards show two years ago. At the time, the former Disney star, clad in a flesh coloured latex bikini and waving a foam finger, grinded and twerked around ‘Blurred Lines’ singer- Robin Thicke. The provocative performance went down as one of the most talked about incidents.

The MTV VMAs, which honours music artists for their videos, has long been known for its surprising and sometimes, shocking incidents. Who could forget Kanye West’s interruption of Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech for Best Music Video in 2009, or Madonna sharing a kiss with both, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera in 2003.

The 2015 MTV VMAs will be held on 30 August at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles, and nominees for the awards will be announced soon.
