Radio City's Chennai buzzed over five lakh times in a month, which were 15000 missed calls per day. These phone calls were in response to the month-long campaign run by Radio City's award-winning show Love Guru. The station claims that out of the five lakh calls made to the station over 50,000 calls were from unique numbers.
The mysterious ‘Love Guru' on Radio City is known to mend broken hearts, provide counselling, companionship and comfort accompanied with the choicest melodies. The show is aired from Monday to Saturday, from 9 pm to 1am.
The voice behind the show talks to Radioandmusic.com about the different sides of the show.
Excerpts:
Who would you attribute this huge response to?
The massive response that we received for the activity is attributed to the listeners of Radio City Love Guru. If not for them and the faith that they have in Love Guru, this activity would not be successful.
How excited were you about the campaign?
I was quite kicked about the activity when the initial idea was stated. There are hundreds of people who want someone to hear the issues plaguing their love life and give suggestions for it. Not everyone is comfortable with discussing their love life with family or friends for that matter. With Radio City Love Guru, they have a Friend to listen to them, with whom they can confide and share everything. Keeping all this in mind, we knew that the campaign will set the phone bells ringing the minute it goes live.
How is it being called 'Love Guru' and not being able to use your own name on radio?
‘Love Guru’ is a unique property conceptualised by Radio City. It is much easier to connect with people with this unique name. In a country like India, the name is a brand representation of something or the other. But a “Love guru” stands only for love and it can be anyone who gives the apt suggestion to the listeners’ problems in his/her love life. The real name may get lost in the longer span of time but the name ‘Love Guru’ will linger in the minds of people when they need to connect with someone to help them out.
How have things evolved for you with radio?
Radio has given me a greater and a larger audience to cater to. Through radio, I can reach out to people staying in the remote parts of the country. The other mediums such as TV, print may not be able to reach every nook and corner of the country. But the radio medium is omnipresent. Radio City has its web radio ‘Radio City Tamil’ through which the show Love Guru caters to the Tamil speaking people present across the globe. So, Radio City has definitely opened up a wide array of audience for me.
How has the year 2014 been? What would be your New Year resolution?
2014 is a great year for me. In a span of one month, we received five lakh missed calls which clearly states the love and affection people have on me. As far as the New Year resolution is concerned, it is “Love All”. I say Love All and Admire the good in everyone, so that this world becomes a happy place for all of us.
