MUMBAI: ‘Chupke Se’ singer, Sadhna Sargam, along with Shankar Mahadevan, has been a part of the panel that judged ‘Benadryl Big Golden Voice’ Season 3 - a singing radio talent hunt show for Maharashtra.
Labeling the judging experience as ‘great,’ Sargam, who also juggles with the role of a mentor, said, “All the singers who have participated in the show are very talented and they do not have to be guided much. The best part is that most of them have a very good base in Indian classical music, so when you talk about technical things in music, they immediately understand and follow.”
The one area where she guides the participants is in the approach of the song.
“There are times that singers don't need to throw their voice to that extent or needs to modulate their voice a bit and that is where we come in,” she explained. While judging the contestants, Sargam not only concentrated on the sur, but also on the way emotions were projected by the singers.
Throwing in a piece of advice to upcoming musicians, Sargam said that it was important to have a classical base and to practice daily. “If you have the basics of classical music in place, only then can you project the emotions perfectly. Also one needs to have discipline and sincerity to practice,” she elucidated.
The radio network recently declared Bhashwati Chakraborty as the winner of the contest.
