NEW DELHI: The Sopori Academy of Music And Performing Arts (SaMaPa) commenced its annual music workshops for the year 2015 in Jammu with an elevating session conducted by Jagdeep Kaur, the renowned music teacher of Jammu.
SaMaPa has specially conceived these workshops with an aim to create a platform where highly learned musicians and scholars can interact with young students of the State, thereby enhancing the vision of young children. Kaur said the workshops are intended to provide both theoretical and practical knowledge of music with comparative analysis between different genres of music; how classical music can enhance the personality and help in the psychological development of a child; why learning classical music is very important in today’s life; and how technology can help to understand, learn and practice music, etc.
SaMaPa is a cultural movement translating from a deep rooted vision of the music legend Pandit Bhajan Sopori and music maestro Abhay Rustum Sopori and is acclaimed as a Cultural Bridge of the State of Jammu & Kashmir with rest of the country for having created a new generation of music connoisseurs.
SaMaPa has made special efforts in shaping the latent of the youth and not letting it go waste, and creating avenues for them so that they can have a choice to make music and performing arts as their career.
The inaugural session of SaMaPa Workshops 2015 was held at Model Institute of Education & Research, BC Road, Jammu. The sessions was attended by a large number of young students and music lovers including the institute’s Chairman Arun Gupta, Director Renu Gupta, Jt. Director Adit Gupta, Principal Chitra Mishra, Vice Principal Usha Gattoo, Management representative Rupa Gupta, Convener Manju Wali, Academic Manager Jasleen and other members and staff of the music department.
Jagdeep Kaur thanked the Chairman and the other members of the administration including cultural coordinator Amarjot Kaur for hosting the inaugural workshop of 2015. Jagdeep Kaur learnt vocal music from B S Bali and has been teaching music over two decades. She was accompanied by Chanchal Singh on Tabla, Hakam Singh on Dilruba, and Ranjit Kour on vocals. The workshops will now be held regularly at various institutes of Jammu.
