MUMBAI: Commencing their careers by composing the Manisha Koirala and Aamir Khan starrer 'Mann' in the year 1999, music composer duo, Sanjeev Darshan has come a long way. Sanjeev and Darshan, sons of Shravan Rathod, from the famous Nadeem Shravan duo who composed songs for films like 'Aashiqui', 'Saajan', 'Deewana', 'Raja Hindustani' and many more. Sanjeev Darshan recently composed the song 'Chil Gaye Naina' for the Anushka Sharma starrer 'N10'. The song is penned by Kumaar and crooned by 'Baby Doll' singer Kanika Kapoor.
Talking to Radiaoandmusic.com's Dhairya Ingle about the brief given for composing the song, one half of the duo- Sanjeev Rathod said, "I asked Kumaar about the situation and I was told that it was a story about a wife who takes revenge on the murderers who killed her husband. Thus the song had to be intense, brimming with energy, passion, and still soulful. Thus we decided to give a very Sufi touch to the song."
Rathod stated that Kummar gave him the line- 'Chil Gaye Naina' during the film 'Grand Masti', adding the team thought it would be apt for that type of situation. Kumaar quickly made the rest of the song.
According to the composer, Kanika Kapoor's voice suited Anushka Sharma the most. "Looking at the songs she is currently singing, we thought that Kanika's voice suited not only the situation but also Anushka. The kind of emotion that a wife would go through and her reaction would be something similar," he added. The song did not take long to record as Kapoor got the emotion and could articulate the same on the mic very quickly.
Being the sons of one of the most successful music composers, the duo always emphasises on the melody of a song. When quizzed if it was a task to impress his father, he jested and said, "Today it is difficult to impress everyone, not just my father. But we were always told that whether it is an item number or a soulful track, melody should be the key component. We have seen our father working and his songs ruled the 90s era, so we obviously have his influence."
The film NH 10 is all set to hit the 6 March, 2015.
