Shefali Alvares: Amit Trivedi has outdone himself with 'Bombay Velvet'

MUMBAI: Shefali Alvares is on cloud nine these days, having crooned three songs in the highly anticipated Ranbir Kapoor, Karan Johar and Anushka Sharma starrer, 'Bombay Velvet'. With music composed by Amit Trivedi and lyrics penned by Amitabh Bhattacharya, all three tracks have elements of jazz and blues.

"I am overwhelmed to be a part of the project as Amit Trivedi has really outdone himself in this album. Not just my songs, but also the tracks by Neeti Mohan are amazing. Right from the start I knew it was for 'Bombay Velvet' and initially, I was only to sing two songs for the movie," said Alvares. The 'Badtameez Dil' singer, however, has sung three of the film's tracks- 'Aam Hindustani', 'Mohabbat Buri Bimari' and 'Shut Up'.

Since the story of the movie belongs to the era of 1960's the music contains elements of jazz and blues, two genres that are dear to Alvares. She revealed that she had a great time recording the tracks and that the only brief Trivedi gave her was to be herself. "Aam Hindustani was the first track to be recorded. It was dubbed one and a half year ago and then we recorded 'Mohabbat Buri Bimari'. Very recently I crooned the song 'Shut Up'," Alvares stated.

Apart from Bollywood projects, she is also working on an album and has collaborated with some of her friends for it. The album is scheduled to release in June. Alvares has also crooned a song with Sachin Jigar and the song is slated to release by May or June.  For a while, Alvares also said that she has distanced herself from live gigs as she is expecting and is in the sixth month of her pregnancy. "I will continue to record as I do not wish to go on a break completely. But live gigs I cannot do as I really cannot sing at a stretch," she added.

'Bombay Velvet' is slated to release on 15 May, 2015.
