'Superfly' to expand with remix EP, music video and tour, says Anish Sood

MUMBAI: One of the more recognisable faces in the Indian dance music scene, Anish Sood, is ready with his brand new collaborative track 'Superfly', which includes Anushka Manchanda and Nanok. The catchy dance/pop number took almost a year to make because the trio was not happy with the finished product. “We went back into the studio and reworked and tweaked it a lot and re-wrote the chord structures,” said Sood.

He revealed that the original idea of collaborating with Manchanda was to write something in the pop-dance crossover space. “I definitely wanted to incorporate Anushka's pop sensibilities into the track and also wanted to retain the dance-floor element without sounding too generic. I accidentally stumbled upon Nanok's SoundCloud and got in touch with him because I really liked his sound. I think 'Superfly' reflects all our styles very distinctly. We have kept the production clean and fresh and the arrangement has strong radio appeal as well,” he says of the track. “'Superfly' is very radio oriented with its arrangement and duration. If you want to grow between genres and expand your audience beyond those who come to watch you play, then you definitely have to hit the radio,” Sood told Radioandmusic.com.

In the coming months, music fans will witness a 'Superfly' tour, a 'Superfly' music video and a 'Superfly' remix EP. “We are definitely going to release a remix EP for 'Superfly' around July,” confirmed Sood. “We are doing a Superfly tour. We are also shooting a music video for 'Superfly' as well. The track releases on 8 April, and the music video will release the following month on 8 May, while the tour will wrap up in the last two weeks of June,” he further added.

Sood is also a part of Sunburn On Air, which is a weekly podcast on iTunes, SoundCloud, Mix Cloud and YouTube. He said that these four platforms generate about seven thousand hits a week internationally, with a majority of the traction coming from India. “We also work with Digitally Imported, the international internet radio broadcaster and TuneIn Radio Pro. In these radio shows, we interview artists who are touring India and the ones that plan to,” he continued.

When asked whether Sood is working on an EP or an album, he said, “I am not a huge fan of EPs. I feel it is better to have stand-out tracks than to release an EP. Although, it is cool to do a remix EP; and, I am not currently working on an album. I am working on quite a few tracks right now. But, I am very picky about what to put out, because whatever you put, it has to be of a certain quality, if not it is up for scrutiny.

'Superfly' marks the second time he has produced a track with female vocals, after 'We Won't Stay' with British singer Zoe Klinck. He said, “I really like doing vocal tracks. I prefer working with vocalists, because then it becomes easier to write. I am currently working with two female vocalists and one male vocalist, Pryce Oliver. I want to release the track with Pryce Oliver before the European summer ends, because the song has a strong summer feel to it.” He is also currently working on a collaboration with acoustic/rock artist Nishchay Parekh.

Later this month, Sood will open for W&W's three-city India tour, celebrating the 50th anniversary of Sunburn on Air. While touring with the Dutch EDM duo, Sood's performance in Pune will be broadcast live.
