MUMBAI: Exactly one year after releasing their self-titled debut EP, Bangalore-based alternative rock n’ roll band White Mug revealed that it has finished writing songs for a new record. The band also plans on recording it soon and hopes to release the new record later this year.
"We have finished writing and arranging the songs, and are currently in negotiations with recording studios where we could go and record some of our new material," said vocalist Matthew. He further added that the band is looking at releasing the album in October.
Matthew stated that White Mug’s new record is very theme-based and story-oriented. "The new record is going to be very different from our previous work. We have added contemporary sounds and coupled them with old school music elements like blues, rock n’ roll and alternative rock," he said when asked about the sound of the new album. "Even though every track will have a story to tell, as a whole, the album will be a bigger story. Everything goes in a flow," added Matthew.
Formed in 2011 as a cover band, White Mug started gaining popularity in 2012 because of its unique sound. The band calls its unique sound a reminiscent of electric blues music, fused with old school rock n’ roll grooves and alternative elements. When put together, it is a mix of catchy melodies, unanticipated use of cowbells, harmonica, tambourine and djembe.
White Mug will next be seen performing in Bangalore at ‘An Ode to the Blues’ on 9 May, followed by a performance at The Mighty Rock Union on23 May.
