Music maestros to enthrall IFFI audience

MUMBAI: 'Moments with the Maestros', a special section comprising 39 films on Indian classical, film music and its exponents, is all set to regale music lovers at the 40th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, says a PTI report. The programme, organised by the Films Division in collaboration with the Directorate of Film Festivals (DFF) and the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG), will be held at the Black Box, Kala Academy, Panaji from November 24.

MTV acquires MJ's This Is It

MUMBAI: MTV Networks has acquired the exclusive United States television rights to air one of the most anticipated films of the year Michael Jackson's This Is It. The deal was brokered by Sony Pictures Television and Ben Zurier, Executive Vice President, Program Strategy, VH1, VH1 Classic and Palladia for MTV Networks. The deal allows MTV Networks to show the film on all its channels, including MTV and VH1, as well as on BET Networks, which like MTV is owned by Viacom. This commercially successful film will be available to MTV Networks in 2011.

Music Check on 70 mm - Music complements this Ajab Kahani

MUMBAI: Targeted at the youth primarily, �Ajab prem ki gazab kahani's music has tremendous appeal for the younger generation. The songs in the film are well placed and Pritam has managed to strike the right chord with peppy songs and stamp a hit with the vocals crooned by current Bollywood rulers- Atif Aslam and Neeraj Sridhar. Rendered by Javed Ali, �Ajao meri tammana' is the first track in the film. The song has nothing impressive and as it wasn't hammered much, is the unnoticed track in the album.

Music biggies on Star Plus' reality show

MUMBAI: After Zee TV's Mega Challenge it's now the turn of Star Plus. The channel is all set to make a music based reality show with celebrated singers from music based reality shows across channels. The show is produced by Gajendrra Siingh's Saibaba Telefilms and is tipped to launch in December. This is going to be a big ticket show and according to sources, Star Plus is pinning its hope on it to generate the much needed TRPs during the weekends.

Mirchi partners Vodafone for caller tunes downloads

MUMBAI: In its effort to explore the VAS market on mobiles and come up with a key differentiation point, Radio Mirchi has developed and launched a new proposition wherein it has tied up with telecom operator Vodafone whose users can download any song that is played across 32 Mirchi stations and set it as their caller tune without having to remember and recall a different code for every song. Mirchi will give its customers one code at the end of every track that it plays making it easier for the listeners who do not have to remember multiple codes

Singer Gita Ghatak no more

MUMBAI: Exponent of Tagore songs, Gita Ghatak, who played a leading role in Ritwik Ghatak's award-winning film 'Meghe Dhaka Tara', died after a protracted illness here today. She was 78 and is survived by her daughter, says a PTI report. In 2002, Meghe Dhaka Tara was ranked at #231 on the Sight & Sound critics' and directors' poll for all-time greatest films.

AROI meet - I&B ministry pacifies radio operators

MUMBAI: Information and broadcast secretary Raghu Menon and additional secretary Uday Kumar Verma addressed the concerns of the radio industry at the first official Association of Radio operators (AROI) meet in Delhi last Thursday. Saadhak crowned winner of 'MTV Rock On'

MUMBAI: After months of battling it out, band Saadhak was crowned winner of MTV Kurkure Rock On at the finale held in Mumbai on Monday evening. Khilagh and Dhairya were the other two bands which made it to the finals. The finale saw live performances by the three bands where they had to spin original tracks to win the title. Joining them were Euphoria- the band and singer Sona Mohapatra who enthralled the audience

Rahman introduces course on Michael Jackson's music

MUMBAI: Composer A R Rahman has introduced a course that will give Michael Jackson's music lovers an opportunity to study his music at Rahman's Tamilnadu based music school KM Music Conservatory. It was reported that during Rahman's stay in Hollywood during the Oscars, he had met Michael Jackson and both were keen to work on an album. However, few months from there on, Michael Jackson passed away.
