MUMBAI: National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA), Mumbai presents the seventh edition of the most awaited Indian music festivals, ‘Bandish 2016 – A Tribute to Legendary Composers’. The three-day musical bonanza will host veteran artists such as Venkatesh Kumar, Ajoy Chakrabarty, Parthiv Gohil and Hariharan, presenting evergreen compositions of renowned artists.
NCPA Indian music programming head Dr. Suvarnalata Rao said, “At NCPA, it’s our passion and responsibility to keep alive the memory of the artists whose music has broken the barriers of generation, geography, and language to becoming our national pride. This year at Bandish, every music lover will get a chance to cherish and relive different eras of music presented by esteemed musicians celebrating some of the greatest composers of our country.”
NCPA Bandish 2016 will open with the classic compositions of the famous duo of Muhammad Shah Rangile’s court, Sadarang & Adarang, presented by Venkatesh Kumar, who is known for his vibrant classical singing style. The next performance of the evening will feature a tribute to the voice of Kolkata, Guru Jnan Prakash Ghosh by one his distinguished students’, Ajoy Chakrabarty.
Day two of the festival will present Padmashree vocalist and versatile artist, Hariharan, who will serenade the audiences with ghazals of Mirza Ghalib, Mir Taki Mir, Ahmad Faraz, Momin and Faiz Ahmed Faiz.
The Festival will conclude with a bouquet of unforgettable raga-based Hindi film songs composed by the ‘Purists’ of the golden era, Roshan, Shankar-Jaikishan and S. D. Burman, and presented by well-known playback singer, Parthiv Gohil.
