MUMBAI: Malhaar is a Hindi Pop band formed in early 2000 in Dehradun, with an aim to play a wide variety of contemporary Indian music from instrumental folk fusion tunes to modern rock. Their songs are heavily inspired from the nature surrounding them in Uttarakhand - the mountains, river, rains and stories of the communities. Their songs are more than just pop songs, and carry deeper messages spreading awareness about communal harmony and environmental concerns.
They have just completed their most ambitious project till date ‘Gangaji’, a contemporary Hindi song and music video that is meant to create awareness about the increase in pollution and overall destruction of the river Ganges. As residents of Uttarakhand, the band feels very strongly about the dire need to ‘Save Ganga’ and have travelled from Gaumukh till Varanasi, trailing the river Ganga to shoot a beautiful music video that showcases the importance of Ganga to the local communities along the river, in places like Devpryag , Rishikesh and Haridwar.
The video, Gangaji, launches online on 11 November 2016, the first day of the Ganga Mahotsav. The Gangaji EP is available across all major digital and streaming portals, exclusively on Times Music.
