Pt. Kedar Bodas will present a thematic concert on the different ragas under Bilawal Thaat, This concert aims to showcase the large variety of ragas under Bilawal Thaat, both naturally derived from the Thaat like Alhaiya Bilawal, as well as with the addition of chalans from Yaman, Shuddha Kalyan, Bihag, Khammaj, Jaijaiwanti, Nat, Gaud, and Hameer. This variety doesn't get presented often, tending to get overpowered by the preference for the Todi and Bhairav Thaat ragas in the morning.
The Bilawal thaat is an ancient group of ragas, characterised by the presence of all natural or ‘shuddha swaras’. These are supposed to be sung between 9 am and 11 am. Alhaiya Bilawal has assumed the position of the flagship raga of this group. Varieties like Devgiri, Yamani, Sukhiya, Shukla, Sarparda, Jayaj, Nat, and Hameer Bilawal are outstanding examples of the creative genius of the musicians over centuries who have blended other ragas with the Basic Bilawal framework to create a vast canvas full of possibilities.
