MUMBAI: NCPA's upcoming event, Yeh Nayan Dare Dare will celebrate the immortal melodies of legendary singer-composer Hemant Kumar. The thematic presentation will be led by Bengali playback singer-composer, Sagnik Sen and his group.
National award winner, Hemant Kumar Mukhopadhyay, popular as Hemant Kumar was one of the greatest Indian singers renowned for his unmatched voice. The late singer had excelled in Rabindra Sangeet, along with Hindi and Bengali songs.
Sagnik Sen and his group will be putting forward an evening of some euphonious songs of Hemant Kumar. Hailed as the voice of Hemant Kumar, Sagnik Sen will showcase to the audience the rich legacy of Hindustani music by associating a particular raga with a corresponding raga-based film song by Hemant Kumar (1920-1989).
Sagnik Sen is a renowned Bengali singer, trained in music under the tutelage of his father Late Shri Swapan Sen. Hemanta Mukherjee's songs and Rabindrasangeet has deeply inspired him since childhood. Apart from being honored from various organizations both in and outside Bengal, he has many prestigious international as well as national concerts to his credit.
In 2017, he launched his second Rabindrasangeet album, Ei to Bhalo Legechhilo, which gained enormous popularity. Last year, he also received Hollywood Music Academia award for the best cover version of Hemant Kumar's immortal hit from Kohraa, Ye Nayan Darey Darey. Along with singing and composing, he also takes great joy in painting portraits, playing piano, and writing poems. Furthermore, his painting has been shown in his various TV shows.
Sagnik truly feels that it is his innate duty to continue the legacy of Hemanta Mukherjee's songs, with pure dedication, perfection and enthusiasm.
