MUMBAI: Eminem’s surprise album Kamikaze (Aftermath/Shady/Interscope) has made UK Chart History today. The US rapper has claimed his ninth consecutive at number one album on the UK’s Official Albums Chart, outselling its nearest rival by 3/1.
Debuting at number one with sales of 55,115 across download and streaming, Eminem has broken a 36-year UK Official Chart record by having the most consecutive at number albums in the UK overtaking the current record which he previously held alongside ABBA and Led Zeppelin according to the Official Charts Company data.
On breaking the UK Chart Record and making Chart history, Eminem said, “Does this mean I get to call myself Sir Eminem?”
With nine at number one albums from 2000 onwards, Eminem has the most number one albums this millennium by an International Artist.
Globally Kamikaze is currently at number one on iTunes in 77 countries and across Spotify and Apple Music the 13-tracks combined have had over 250million streams.
The Official Charts Company, Chief Executive Martin Talbot said,
“Many congratulations to Eminem. To release nine successful albums is an achievement in itself, but to reach the UK’s Official Albums Chart summit with each of them, consecutively, without a break, across 18 years, is quite remarkable.”
As well as claiming the top spot on the UK’s Official Albums Chart, three tracks from Kamikaze (co-executively produced with his long-time collaborator Dr. Dre) have debuted in the Top 10 of the UK’s Official Singles Chart; The Ringer (#4), Lucky You (#6) and Fall (#9).
