MUMBAI: Ranveer Singh-starrer Gully Boy – inspired by the life and success of Mumbai-based hip-hop stars, Divine and Naezy – today released the trailer that features two songs by Divine.
DIVINE aka Vivian Fernandes, who spent a large of 2018 working closely with the cast and crew of Gully Boy especially Ranveer Singh also has contributed five tracks to the original soundtrack (OST), two of which were showcased in the trailer, Azaadi and Apna Time Aayega.
While Azaadi has been performed by DIVINE and produced by Dub Sharma, and is a stinging account of corrupt, lackadaisical governments that are apathetic to public issues, ‘Apna time aayega’ – also produced by Dub Sharma – has been performed by Ranveer, whose earlier rap in the movie teaser, ‘Asli hip-hop’, was also applauded by hip-hop and film fans alike. ‘Apna time aayega’ – written and composed by DIVINE – is a tale of self-determination in the face of strife and poverty.
“I have been waiting for this and it’s surreal to see this happen. From doing cyphers on the corners to watching the scene on the big screen, dreams!” Divine says of the trailer. “Gully Boy has been a big part of my life for the last few months, and this is exciting for me, and for hip-hop in India. People got a taste of what awaits them with ‘Asli hip-hop’, and this trailer will have people jumping. Hip-hop is the voice of the streets and Gully Boy will take it to every corner of the country,” adds Divine, who has contributed five tracks to the Gully Boy soundtrack.
The film is scheduled to be released worldwide on 14 February, a week after its official premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival on 7 February.
