MUMBAI: Coming Up Roses, Singapore’s freshest alternative rock and shoegaze band, releases their official debut single Lies. After teasing out two demos Waters and Sky on Bandcamp, the four-piece the band made up of Emily Sera (vocals, bass) Darius Oon (guitar), Lorenzo Romero (guitar) and Bruce Tan (drummer) finally reveals an energetic number Lies.
Lies highlights the band’s experiences of betrayal through the painful realization that cracks have formed in what they once thought were seemingly perfect relationships. This the anguish felt is the crux of the raw teenage angst which culminates in the single’s vicious drums and aggressive guitar riffs to create an emotional and exhilarating track.
Vocalist and bassist Emily Sera, shares that the song reflects the collective anxieties that the band has experienced as they progress to a different stage in life: “In our earlier years, we were taught to not question what we knew or were told. This song is about questioning the realities that we were fed as unassuming youths, and the situations that arose which caused much anger and disappointment as a result of uncertainty.”
