MUMBAI: After its overwhelming success for the last three years, Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM is proud to be back with the 4th edition of Mirchi Music Awards Bangla, Royal Stag Mirchi Music Awards Bangla 2014 Powered By Idea (MMA Bangla) - the prestigious awards show in Bengal that recognizes and celebrates the best in Bengali music. With the greatest names in the industry on the Jury panel and scintillating live acts the leading radio station of the city literally dazzled its fourth edition of its annual music awards.
"We are quite excited to present the much awaited fourth edition of MMA Bangla. For us every single song is a winner as it contributes to making Radio Mirchi your favourite music channel. At the same time, we are scaling up the platform to making it the biggest award ceremony in this region," said Madhuri Bhosale, Senior Vice-President and Cluster Head East.
More than 1500 songs released in 2014 were judged by a judges' panel of thirty two luminaries of Bangla music in an effort to present awards to the most deserving and outstanding artistes of the year in various categories. The entire process of judging was held in secret ballot handled by the renowned audit firm Ernst & Young. The songs were adjudged for total 23 award categories. Besides the regular awards categories in Film and Non-Film Bangla music, there is also the Mirchi Listeners' Choice Awards for the Best Film Song and the Best Film Album.
A host of stars walked the red carpet at the Mirchi Music Awards including the likes of Prosenjit Chatterji, Jeet Ganguly, Chiranjit, Babul Supriyo, Payel Sarkar, Gargi Roy Choudhury, Tanusree, Usha Utthup, Kabir Suman, Pandit Tanmoy Bose, Indraadip Das Gupta, Raghab Chatterjee Director Srijit Mukherjee, actors Indrashish Roy, Tota Roy Chaudhury, Locket Chatterji, singer Rupankar, Sidhu & his band Cactus, Haimanti Sukla, Swagatalakshmi Dasgupta, Surajit, directors Sudeshna Roy, Nandita Ray and Shiboprasad Mukhopadhyay, rockstar Rupam Islam, composer Joy Sarkar, among others.
The show was hosted by the tremendous trio of Abir Chatterji, Kanchan Mullick and Radio Mirchi’s very own Mir. Studded with outstanding performances by the likes of Akriti Kakkar, Anupam Roy, Lagnajita, Prashmita Paul, Sayantika, Paoli Dam, Nachiketa Chakraborty and Soham the show was a grand success.
Anupam, Lagnajita and Prashmita act was a carnival of colour and music.
Probably the biggest attraction of the night was National Award winning actress Vidya Balan. She was clearly happy to be back in her favorite city. “I love coming back to Kolkata, that’s no secret but I am most excited about this opportunity to be amongst the who’s who of the Bengal Music Industry. I have been a huge fan of Hemanta, Manna Dey, Salil Choudhury, S. D. Burman and of course R. D. Burman!” said Vidya.
“I am so touched by the love Kolkata extends to me every time I visit. The last time I was at the Mumbai Mirchi Music Awards, it was like 7 years back but this year I am just too happy being a part of Mirchi Music Awards Bangla. My best wishes to all the winners in the various categories” added Vidya Balan.
Later she also graced the stage with her charm. Mr. Prosenjit Chatterji, probably the biggest name of Bangla film industry also joined her in on stage to make the occasion special.
Coming back to the awards - “Jaatishwar” was the film that swept all major awards this year bagging best album of the year, song of the year (“E Tumi Kemon Tumi”). Rupankar won the male vocalist of the year for “E Tumi Kemon Tumi” while Shreya Ghoshal won female vocalist of the year for “Bela Boye Jae” from ”Bunoh Haansh”. The veteran artist Kabir Suman won both the awards for best music composer (for “E Tumi Kemon Tumi”) and Lyricist of the year (for “Khudar Kasam Jaan” from “Jaatishwar”). “E Tumi Kemon Tumi” also won the Mirchi listeners’ choice award for best song while “Jaatishwar” was chosen by the listeners as the best album of the year.
Overall the Royal Stag Mirchi Music Awards Bangla 2014 powered by Idea has been a grand success.
