MUMBAI:Mumbai's The Other People have been regulars of the club circuit over the last 10 years and are arguably India's best loved cover band. They are the only band to have played regularly at the Blue Frog for the last six years. In fact, the Wall Street Journal advises expats not to miss going to the Frog when the band plays on the last Saturday of every month. They opened for international acts such as MLTR and are frequently playing at weddings and corporate gigs across South East Asia, from Colombo to Singapore, Hong Kong and Macau. They recently played in the presence of the royal family of Bhutan.
But it is the video of their first single 'Christmas is here', which they released quietly 2 weeks ago, that is going places. It has reached 5th place in VH1's global "Fave Xmas videos" behind Band Aid 30, Mariah Carey, Michael Bublé and Ariana Grande. Here, the video is now on rotation on 9XO, MTV and MTV Indies. This weekend the video has been front-paged on several video platforms, including fdrmx.com in the US - that includes also an enthusiastic write-up -, and NMusic, the leading platform in Brazil and portuguese-speaking countries.
After winning the YouTube Global Pixel Project in December 2012, the six members of the band notched up their ambitions and started writing their own songs. They signed up with Universal Music Publishing Group last year and just completed their first album. Says Achille Forler, managing director of UMPG, "They're top notch musicians with incredible focus; Zarir's pop-rock songwriting and their talent for arrangements and harmonies are outstanding. 2015 will be their year."
Their second single 'Dancing for the world' will be released at the end of January and their third single will come out on February 14 along with the album #Dreamers #Believers #Lovers.
