MUMBAI: Based on the works of illustrator and author Devdutt Pattanaik, the noted singer-songwriter Kailash Kher has put together a series of episodes for the show based on Baba Kedarnath. With director Bodhisattva (of 'Devo Ke Dev Mahadev' fame), Kher completed the shooting of the twelve-episode long series - shot in different regions of the country.
Kailash Kher's admiration for Lord Shiv may not surprise anyone anymore, but the devotion towards the Hindu God continues as the singer-turned-producer plans to release the serial on the small screen. Radioandmusic.com spoke with Kailash Kher on the phone, and there are only two elements that add energy and enthusiasm to Kher's otherwise sober-and-calm voice - Music and Lord Shiv. "I've always been a worshipper of Shiv. Hum sab ke kan kan mein Shiv hai (There's a Shiv in every atom). He is the God of mankind - the creator of the universe," says Kher, who classifies the show as fictional-mythological-reality.
Through his Instagram account, Kher promoted the yet-to-be-released anthem of the serial, titled 'Jai Jai Kedara'. Bollywood singers and artists namely Amrita Singh, Sonu Nigam, Shaan, Babul Supriyo, Arijit Singh, Shreya Ghoshal have lent their voices for the anthem. The emphasis of music does not end there. The series will feature seven songs. The soundtrack of the series features - 'Babaji', 'Kedar Sthanan' and 'Guruji' (Kailash Kher), 'Mann Chanchala' (Amrita Phadnavis, Amrita Singh), 'Shankar Mahadev' (Shrikant) and 'Jogi Ji'. Speaking about the multi-singer anthem, Kher said, "First such anthem since 'Mile Sur Tumhara Hamara'". Kher has roped in several noted actors for the narration of the twelve episodes. The list of celebrities includes - Suresh Wadkar, Ashutosh Rana, Anupam Kher, Vivek Oberoi and Hema Malini.
"The narrators will also appear on the screen. All the actors and musicians have contributed in unique ways and I am super glad," adds Kher. The 'Saiyaan' singer elaborates on the essence of the series stating the message he intends to spread remains 'how spirituality in India' needs more awareness. "The plan is to get commercial channels on the board for the series. We're also in touch with Doordarshan. The decision has not been finalised yet. The priority is the production and shooting of the series, and we are half way there," explains an understandably enthusiastic Kher.
Kher exemplifies the vitality of spirituality and its impact on musicians, celebrities and artists through examples of 'spiritual re-birth' of George Harrison, Steve Jobs and several others. "All these artists had to seek peace and solace through India, or through 'Shiv'. Why? Shiv has the power to control the universe, and there is immense strength in spirituality," said Kher. Kher points out the research for the show was the toughest part, and the illustrations by Devdutt Pattanaik will finally get a small-screen adaptation.
